Wanda Meyer Artz, age 91, of Humboldt, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Faith Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 AM at the church. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Humboldt.
Wanda was born on April 26, 1933, to Walter and Effie Cecil (Palmer) Meyer. She grew up in Humboldt and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1950. She went on to work as a postal clerk and a postmaster for the post office for 35 years, retiring in 1991. In 2005, she married Edward Artz.
Wanda was active in her community, serving as secretary for the St. Paul’s WELCA, a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church, secretary-treasurer for the Minnehaha County Farmers Union, secretary for the American Legion Auxiliary, member of the Mary Chilton DAR Chapter, and board member of the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. She enjoyed spending time with friends and traveling, as well as knitting, crocheting, and jigsaw puzzles.
Wanda is survived by her husband, Edward; nieces, Karen Meyer and Debbie Mowrey; nephew, Michael J. Meyer; brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Sharon) Artz and David Artz; sisters-in-law, Caroline (Ben) Domke, Barbara (Bob) Wieczorek, Mildred Niewenhuis, Donna (Larry) Urugdenil; step daughter, Sharon Koch and her family; stepson, Chris Artz and his family; and daughter-in-law, Linda Rae Placek and her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Leonard Meyer and his wife, Jean Meyer, stepsons, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
