Thomas Sorum, born November 23, 1946, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 31, 2026, at the age of 79.
Tommy was a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He proudly served in the National Guard as a survey computer specialist and was recognized as a sharpshooter with the M14 rifle. He worked at John Morrell in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he dedicated many years before retiring.
On June 27, 1970, he married the love of his life, Pam, his high school sweetheart, and from that young love grew a lifelong bond.
Together, they built a life on the farm, raising their two children. Family was everything to Tom, and he showed it not just in words, but in the life he lived every day.
He found his greatest joy at the Round Barn Farm in Renner, a place that was more than just land. There, he boarded horses for much of his life and built countless lifelong friendships. Whether you met him at the farm or at the Red Eye Bar, where he enjoyed his Brandy and good company, you quickly knew you were in the presence of someone unforgettable.
He loved to travel, golf, and spend time with his best friend Denny—often sharing a cigarette and good conversation. He had a personality that was equal parts generous and ornery. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back—but might give you a hard time while doing it.
He had a special love for dogs throughout his life, especially his most recent companion, Sammy, who passed just last year. Sammy was never far from his side—usually found sitting at his feet and barking at Grandma’s door.
Tom is survived by his children, Jeri Jo Sorum and Brett Sorum; his grandchildren, Cierra (Brady) Cuka, Zeya (Chloe) Sorum, Chloey (Colt) Sorum, and Nick Asmussen; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Shirley Sorum; his sister, Loxie; and his beloved wife, Pam.
He left this world the same way he lived—on his own terms, surrounded by love, and leaving behind stories that will be told for generations.
