Sharon Kay Mains

Sharon Kay Mains, age 86, of Garretson, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM Friday, September 18, 2026, at Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. Interment will be in the Summit Hill Cemetery near Garretson. Visitation will be from 4:30-6:30 PM Thursday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.

Sharon was born on December 10, 1939, in Flandreau, South Dakota, to Carrol and Kathryn (Hosington) Critser. She grew up in Flandreau and graduated from Flandreau High School. She lived in several places around the country including places like Rhode Island and Arizona, as well as Flandreau, Sioux Falls, and Pipestone and raised her children. While in Pipestone she was a LPN and assisted with physical therapy. In 1988, she moved to Garretson. She worked as a cook and bartender and later owned and operated the Davis Motel. Sharon cared deeply for others. She loved cooking for people and enjoyed visiting with her morning coffee groups.

Survivors include her children: Kelli Tyrrell, Kim (Rick) Jacobson, Kandee (Jason) VanBockern, and Kari Jo VeLure; 13 grandkids; 22 great grandkids; nine great great grandkids; siblings: Nancy (Ed) Peterson and Tom (Deb) Crister; special friend, Laurie Bennet; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Kevin Keegan and Kenny VeLure; sisters, Barbara Gottsch, Jean Walberg, and Donna Whaley.
