Russell James Peterson

Russell “Rusty” James Peterson, age 64, passed away on June 8, 2025, in Florida. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Mike and Melissa Peterson’s home at 415 Kringen Ave, Baltic from 5-8:00 PM.

Rusty was born on November 28, 1960, to Roger and Jackie Peterson. He graduated from Riverdale High School in Port Bryon, Illinois in 1980 and married Brenda (Barnett) Peterson on June 14, 1980. He moved to Baltic, South Dakota in 1988. In South Dakota he drove semi and did construction work. Later he moved to Florida and married Melody Richardson.

Rusty enjoyed playing old man’s basketball, riding his Harley, listening to and attending Kiss concerts, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. But most of all he enjoyed watching his children play sports in school.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren: Michael (Melissa) Peterson (Cody Schultz and Anna Peterson), Amy Wehde (Jordynlynn and Skylar Wehde), and David (Alyssa) Peterson (Blake, Payton & Garrett Peterson); brother, Bob (Suzie) Peterson, Brighton, Colorado; and niece, Lisa Peterson and her son Zach, Longmont, CO.

He was preceded in death by this father and step-mother, Roger and Lee Peterson; mother and step-father, Jackie Obeslo and Bob Wiese, and his grandparents.
