Roxann “Rox” Wold was the kind of person whose presence made a place feel like home. Born on July 12, 1955, to Dalton and Corrine Hefner, Rox grew up learning the value of hard work, community, and showing up for others—values she carried with her every day of her life.

She spent her elementary years residing in Colman, SD and it wasn’t until Dalton purchased both the Dairy Queen and the bar, Hef’s, that the family moved to Chester. Rox graduated from Chester High School in 1973 and, just a couple months later, married her sweetheart Larry M. Wold. Together they shared a life full of simple joys—camping trips, rounds of golf, and the pride of raising their two children, Traci and Lance. When Larry passed in 2003, Rox faced loss with the quiet strength that defined her. She stayed in Chester, choosing familiarity and community.

Known for her strong work ethic and independence, Rox was never one to ask for help. She worked hard her entire life, finding joy in serving people. Whether at Younkers, behind the bar at Hef’s, or later at the Classic Corner, Rox brought warmth, reliability, and genuine care for others. She lived her faith by attending the United Methodist Church and was a proud and active member of the Chester American Legion Auxiliary.

Above all else, Rox was devoted to her family. She was an incredible mother and an even prouder grandmother—their biggest cheerleader. She rarely missed a game or event and treasured the time spent playing cards, games, or simply being together.

Rox found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: tending her beautiful flowers, soaking up the sun, sharing laughs with friends over a cold Miller Lite at Hef’s, watching TV, cracking sunflower seeds, and filling her home with the comfort of her cooking—especially her famous macaroni salad, potato salad, and calico beans. These weren’t just meals; they were expressions of her love.

Though she is deeply missed, Rox leaves behind a life well lived—rooted in family, community, and a heart that always made room for others.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Traci (Brett) Roemen of Sioux Falls, SD; her son, Lance (Sharee) Wold of Chester, SD; grandchildren, Madison, Connor & Cali Roemen and Layke, Kaytee & Payton Wold; brother, Wayne (Mary) Hefner; sisters, Jackie VanLiere and Diny (Mike) Baartman; brother-in-law, Charles Wold; and several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dalton and Corrine Hefner and her husband, Larry Wold.
