He grew up with his brothers and sisters on the family farm near Tea, SD attending country school nearby and graduating in 1963 from Lennox High School. After graduation, he went into the Army Reserves from 1964 to 1970. His early career was spent in construction, working at Greenly’s & John Morrell, as well as bartending in Sioux Falls.

On October 13 th , 1978 Bob married the love of his life Dorthy (Jansen) in Rapid City, SD. From his marriage he was blessed with two beautiful sons, Robbie Douglas and Donald Ryan. He was a loving father not only his amazing sons but was also a wonderful father to Stacy Jo and Shelly Lynn.

After his years of bartending he began his life over the road. Spending days and nights spinning 18 wheelers across the country just to make it back home.

In 1984, they moved to Baltic, SD where they spent their lives raising their family and making countless memories.

Bob was a man of many things, he was the handy-man, the fixer-upper, the advice giver, the teacher, the prank player, the joke teller, the good-hearted man. For some he is most remembered for his pocket full of quarters to entice kids into a 5-minute head rub or his prank playing that was always funnier to him than anyone else. Some may recall the Baby Ruths, the Cayenne pepper, and a few fireworks.

In his free time, he cherished time with his wife, kids, and grandkids. Enjoying volleyball in the pool, reading, road hunting, card playing, and especially treasured his days spent on the pontoon fishing with his family.

Into retirement he continued to do what brought him joy, fishing any chance he got, eating his Hershey’s Kisses fresh out the freezer tin and was always on the lookout for a good special to buy in bulk, throughout the years that was anything from Pork& Beans, to toilet paper, and always for his beloved Pepsi.

Bob has taken many roads in his life, but his favorite road was always the one that led him home.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, Harold and Ardith Petershagen; nephews Michael Krell, Timothy Archer, sister-in-law Barb Krell, brothers-in-law Mario Pliego, Douglas Petershagen, & Larry Archer, son-in-law Ryan Larson, & many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
