Mary Ann Dorsman, age 81, of Sioux Falls, SD, (formerly of Garretson, SD) died Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.

A Remembrance Gathering will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 27th, 2023, in the community room of the Village Cooperative Apartments, 1600 E. 77th Street, Sioux Falls.  Family will also be present for a visitation at the Minnehaha Funeral Home of Garretson on Friday, July 28th, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.  A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 29th, at the United Church of Garretson.  Due to the smaller size of the church, guests are encouraged to attend the Rememberance Gathering.

Mary was born May 2, 1942, on a farm near Monroe, SD, to John and Lola (Watson) Mammenga.  Mary graduated from Monroe High School and practical nursing school.  Mary spent the majority of her career caring for the residents of Palisade Nursing Home in Garretson.  Mary had a true calling for caring for the elderly and cared for many elderly friends throughout her life.

Mary met the love of her life, Don Dorsman, at the Arkota Ballroom in Sioux Falls.  They were married on September 24, 1965, at Riverside Church, rural Canistota, SD.  Their relationship withstood the trials of life, lasting more than 57 years.  Together, they made their home in Garretson, SD.  Mary and Don raised three children and passed their values of hard work, faith in God, and love of family on to them.

Mary loved to travel, and Mary and Don retired young and traveled the world together.  Time spent at the lake with Mary will remain some of her family’s most cherished memories.  Mary enjoyed spending time with friends and was active with the United Church of Garretson, Christian Women’s Club, Red Hats, Birthday Club, Legion Auxiliary, book club, and card club.

Mary will be dearly missed by her husband, Don, of Sioux Falls; daughters Carla (Andy) Dedula, Carin (Brad) Flom; son, Carver Dorsman; grandchildren Drew Dedula, Sam Cooey, Trace Dedula, Jacob Flom, Bella Cooey, Teagan Dedula and Nathan Flom; and great grandson Andrew Dedula, all of Sioux Falls.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Jr.; and infant son, Delwin Dorsman.  She is survived by siblings Margret Griebel, Jerald (Karen) Mammenga, Doris (Duane) Carlson, Norma Hermanson, Terry (Sandie) Mammenga, Nancy Unruh, and Jeff (Lisa) Mammenga.

Mary may no longer be with us in body, but the lives she touched and works she did left the world a better place.  She will forever be missed.
