Marilyn Maude Siemonsma

Marilyn Maude Siemonsma, age 81, of Hartford died Monday, October 3, 2022, in Sioux Falls. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 8th at 10:30 am at Central Valley Community Church in Hartford. Burial to follow funeral services at St. George Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to services from 9:30-10:30 am.

Marilyn was born April 20, 1941, in Wessington, South Dakota to parents Earl and Doris (Petersen) Phillips. She grew up in rural Wessington on her parents’ farm.  Marilyn attended grade school in a one-room schoolhouse about a mile from her home and graduated from Wessington High School in 1959. She went on to attend Huron College and received a degree in Secretary Science.

Marilyn moved to Sioux Falls after college and was employed by International Harvester.  It was there she met Carol Warrington, her best friend & future sister-in-law, which eventually led to her meeting her husband Willie.  Marilyn also worked for Stan Houston Equipment, Citibank and as Head Bookkeeper for all her husband’s businesses.

Marilyn was united in marriage to William H. Siemonsma, September 19, 1964, at Wessington, SD.  After their marriage they lived in Sioux Falls for a year before moving to Lyons in 1965.  Marilyn held the record for longest living resident in Lyons, 55 years.  In the Spring of 2020, Marilyn then moved to her current residence, Leisure Living in Hartford, SD.

Marilyn was a member of St. George’s Catholic Church and former member Lyons Booster Club, Tops, Lions Club and Beta Psi.  Marilyn enjoyed reading, collecting bears & dishes, BUT most of all spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchild.

Lake, MN; Easton & Nariah Siemonsma, Montrose, SD. Great-Grand Daughter, Vivian Siemonsma, Sioux Falls, In-Laws, Mary Tennessen, Sioux Falls; Jean Baustain, Luverne, MN; Bernice (Harry) Blomgren, Beaver Creek, MN; Theresa (Robert) Hay, Sioux Falls, Joan (Randy) Comer, Indianapolis, MN; Kay Siemonsma, Keystone, SD; James (Marcene) Siemonsma, Hartford; Steve (Linda) Siemonsma, Tea, SD; Donald (Vicki) Siemonsma, Sioux Falls; Vincent (Diane) Siemonsma; Humboldt, SD; Patrick Siemonsma, Sioux Falls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie, her parents, Earl & Doris Phillips, In-Laws, John & Joan Siemonsma, Charles & Natalie Siemonsma, Jerry & Marilyn Siemonsma, Al Tennessen, Walter Baustain, Jr. and Robert Siemonsma.
