Marcia M. Bonte

Marcia M. Bonte, age 75, of Garretson, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center in Hawarden, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4-6:00 PM Friday, June 12, 2026, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. Interment will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Garretson at a later date.

Marcia Marjorie (Peterson) Bonte was born in Sioux Falls, SD on July 18, 1950, to Henning and Marjorie (Swenson) Peterson. She was the only daughter and youngest of their 5 children. She grew up on a farm near Garretson, SD and graduated from Brandon Valley High School in 1968.

She was married to Darrel Bonte on May 8, 1971. They were blessed with two boys: Tucker in 1975 and Luke in 1979. They raised the boys on an acreage just outside of Garretson. Both she and Darrel loved to tell stories to their grandchildren about the chaos, shenanigans and fun Tucker and Luke had growing up together.

Marcia worked for Pace Manufacturing in Brandon, SD for many years before retiring and spending her days fishing on the Split Rock River where she and Darrel built their new home.

Marcia was an avid card player, and if there was no one around to play a quick game with, she was fine with playing Solitaire. For many years, Darrel and Marcia would take an annual trip to Las Vegas which was something she always remembered fondly.

Remaining to cherish Marcia’s memory are her boys: Tucker (Deanna) Bonte of Garretson and Luke (Deidra) Bonte of Sherman; grandchildren; Cody (Ellie) Bonte, Rochester Hills, MI and their son, Marcia’s first great grandchild, Drew, Kailyn (Nick) Schirado, Harrisburg, SD, Brock Bonte, Garretson, SD, Clayton (Kara) Bonte, Smithfield, VA, Maren Bonte, Nora Bonte, Bence Bonte, Sherman, SD, Caitlin Johnson, Lexington, NC and Dustin Haas, Harrisburg, SD; two brothers, Dale Peterson, Garretson, SD and Dean (Jeannie) Peterson, Garretson, SD, along with many nieces, nephews, and Darrel’s siblings, Dave (Deb) Bonte, Ken Bonte, Steve (Karen) Bonte, and Rene (Rick) Vandersnick. Preceding Marcia in death is her husband Darrel Bonte who passed away on June 15, 2016. Her parents Henning and Marjorie, brothers; Larry Peterson and Lynn Peterson; sisters-in-law Deborah Bonte and Cathy Benson, niece Cara Bonte and nephew Bryan Peterson.
