Lloyal “Bud” Amundson, age 90, of Colton, passed away in his sleep on Sunday, August 5, 2018, at the Palisade Healthcare Community in Garretson. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 9, 2018 at First Lutheran Church in Colton. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday, at the church, with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 PM
Bud was born on March 31, 1928, near Colton, South Dakota, to Leonard and Clara (Moen) Amundson. He attended Hamre Country School through the 8 th grade. He worked for neighboring farmers until entering the United States Navy in 1950. He was honorably discharged in 1954 at a Machinist Mate 3 rd Class. He returned to the area and married Shirley Salomonson on March 26, 1955, at First Lutheran Church in Colton. The couple lived in Butterfield, Minnesota, Aberdeen, Sioux Falls, and Flandreau while Bud worked for several construction companies doing concrete and carpentry work. In 1962 they moved to the family farm Colton where he started to farm and built his own new home in 1963 and several other out building. He continued to work construction until 1973 when he started farming full time. He built another home for Shirley and himself in 1993. Bud had been in a memory care unit in Sioux Falls since September 2017.
Bud belonged to First Lutheran Church in Colton, and the Colton American Legion for 64 years. He loved riding motorcycles, driving cars, and spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, Colton; children: Alan (Joan) Amundson, Colton, Karla (Mike) Siemonsma, Garretson, JD Amundson, Colton, Paul (LaVoy) Amundson, Dell Rapids, Melissa (Josh) Burggraff, Colton; 25 grandkids; and 23 great grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Shelly Amundson, and a sister, Luetta Qualseth.
