LeMoyne Edward Edmundson passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20th, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Friday, September 25, 2026, at Palisade Lutheran Church, Hwy 23 and 121st Street rural Garretson. Interment will follow in the East Palisade Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.
LeMoyne was born on December 31st, 1934, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Leonard and Bernice “Babe” (Bogenrief) Edmundson. He was baptized and confirmed at Palisade Lutheran Church in rural Garretson. He received his early education at District #52, a small country school near his family farm. He later graduated from Garretson High School in 1952 where he played football and was active in 4-H. LeMoyne then enlisted in the Army National Guard for 8 years.
LeMoyne married Donna Oppold on February 28th, 1960, at Palisade Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, he farmed outside of Garretson where he took great pride in being a steward of his crops and livestock. He was especially proud of raising cattle, favoring black and black baldies. He always looked forward to harvest season after months of planting, turning the hard work of spring and summer into visible results. He instilled a work ethic that followed, “If you’re going to do something, you better be the best you can at it.” The family farm was a testament to the life LeMoyne and Donna shared, leaving behind a life built on family, hard work, and love.
Beyond farming, LeMoyne was also involved in the community. He served on the Garretson Ambulance Board, local FFA Ag Advisory Board and held various positions on the church council and Palisade Cemetery Association.
Family was truly at the center of his life. He especially enjoyed summer road trips to the Black Hills where many wonderful memories were made with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. He was involved in his grandkids’ endeavors, proudly attending numerous hockey and basketball games as well as tractor pedal pulls, FFA events, and 4-H shows. He was also a devoted Minnesota sports fan, supporting the Vikings, Twins, and Gophers. The Vikings could make or break his day, but he always believed next year was going to be their year!
Over the years, LeMoyne enjoyed being part of the neighborhood card club, going on fishing trips and trying his luck at the slot machines.
LeMoyne was a man of few words, but what he said mattered. His quiet presence spoke for itself and could always be met with sarcasm and witty charm. LeMoyne lived a good life, loved his family well, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his children: Karla (Steve) Grogan, Eagan, MN, Kelvin (Melissa) Edmundson, Garretson, SD, and Kristen (Erik) Nelson, Sioux Falls, SD; 6 grandchildren: Derek (Mary) Grogan, Alyssa (Brian) Ott, Cheyenne Edmundson, Haley Edmundson, Carter Nelson and Lexi Nelson; 2 great-grandchildren and one on the way: Olivia and Will Grogan, and Baby Ott due in October.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Donna; brother, Wayne Edmundson, many relatives and life-long friends.
