Karen Marie Mathieu, 47, passed away Monday, November 6, 2017, at the Sanford Foundation Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 11, 2017, at St. George Catholic Church, Hartford. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Friday, with a Wake Service at 7:00 PM at the church. Burial will be in the St. George Catholic Cemetery.
Karen Marie was born May 7, 1970 to parents Robert and Carol (Young) McMahon at the family farm near Colton. She grew up on the family farm near Colton and graduated from Tri-Valley High School in 1988. She then attended Dakota State College in Madison and graduated with a degree in Medical Records Management in 1992.
Karen married Lester Mathieu November 7, 1992 at St. George Catholic Church in Hartford. After their marriage they lived on a farm near Baltic. She worked as a coder and chief of HIMS at the Veteran Hospital in Sioux Falls for 23 years.
Karen loved watching the Tri-Valley Mustangs, Minnesota Twins, and Green Bay Packers. She loved being with family, but most of all she loved being a mom.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Les, Baltic; her children, Morgan and her fiance Aaron Zieske, Logan and Mason all at home; her mother, Carol McMahon, Colton; her siblings, Michael and wife Lois of Harrisburg; Greg of Seattle, WA; Barbara of Colton; Lori and husband Morris Wegehaupt of Dimock; Linda of McCook, NE; and Mary of Sioux Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert, on October 21, 2015.
