Judy Mae Walters, age 84, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Palisade Healthcare in Garretson. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids Chapel. Interment will be in the Pioneer Lutheran Cemetery, rural Baltic. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Monday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Dell Rapids.
Judy was born on July 6, 1941, in Dell Rapids, and was raised by her parents, Joel and Celeste Lucille (Opoien) Skatvold. Her family moved around to several places during her childhood, but she spent most of her childhood in the Dell Rapids and Baltic areas. On April 15, 1959, she married Leslie Walters at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. Judy worked as a nurse’s aide at the Odd Fellows Home in Dell Rapids, and then worked in manufacturing for Litton Industries and Hutchison Technologies. Les passed away on August 30, 2015.
Judy was a member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids, where she was active in the quilting group, and also attended church at Heritage Lutheran in Dell Rapids. She was active with the Dell Rapids Museum and loved horses. She also enjoyed sewing, baking banana bread and pumpkin bars, socializing with friends over a cup of coffee, and spending time with her family and especially her grandkids.
Survivors include her daughters, Kim (Pat) Lindholm, Cheryl (Tim) Bauman, Carol (Joel) Bunkers, Julie Sharp (Kris Sieve), and Mike and Cyndi Drey; grandchildren, Jeremy (Lori), Angie (Jim), Brent, Joshua, Amy (Matt), Brett (Samantha), Michelle (Garrett), Brittnie, Dylan (Stacia), Nikki (Cory), Miriah (Kyle) and Brodie; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren; brothers, Dean (Karen) Skatvold and Keith Skatvold; sister-in-law, Diane Skatvold; cousin and sister she never had, Kathy Magness; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leslie Walters, son, Gary, daughter, Teresa, and brother, LeRoy Skatvold.
