James Warren Jewett

James "Jim" Jewett, age 73, of Dell Rapids, passed away on July 6, 2026. Services will be held at the Minnehaha Funeral home, in Dell Rapids, SD on July 18, 2026. Visitation will be at 12:00 PM, with funeral services to begin at 1:00 PM

James “Jim” Warren Jewett was born June 11, 1953, in Faith, SD. He was the son of Robert and Gladys (Hirsch) Jewett. Though being born in Faith, SD, he was raised in Isabel, SD, then eventually moved to Bell Fourche, SD, when he was seven. He graduated high school in Belle Fourche and bought his first dump truck. James then moved to Arizona and began traveling for work, later moving to Colorado. After several years in Colorado, James moved to Gillette, Wyoming, and accepted an operator position at the coal mines. James prospered as a heavy equipment operator for many years and has received many awards for his outstanding safety and versatility. After his daughters were grown and on their own, James moved back to his birth state and worked his last years for a company he loved: Loiseau Construction.

James was well known for his flirty nature, fast humor, and kindness. He also was known as Grandpa Jim, never without candy in his front pocket for his grandchildren.

James had many passions, which included fishing, writing, and reading. He had a meaningful relationship with Jesus and a deep faith.

Grateful to have shared his life are his daughters, Kristen Jewett (Raymond Tapia) of Santa Fe, NM, and Jewels (Josh) Rogers of Woodland Park, CO; grandchildren, Skye Jewett and Greyson Rogers of Woodland Park; siblings, Bob (Carol) Jewett of Dell Rapids, Jay Jewett of Gillette, WY, and Mae Jewett of Belle Fourche, SD; and nephews, Bill (Lesa) Jewett and Ty (Salli) Jewett.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Gladys, and grandson, Colby Pharr.
