Gerald “Jerry” Westberg, 78, of Colton died unexpectedly Monday, November 6, 2017 in Sioux Falls.

A celebration of Life will be held 1:00 PM Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Minnehaha Funeral Chapel, Colton.  Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday at the Minnehaha Funeral Chapel.

Gerald William “Jerry” Westberg was born April 23, 1939 in Wadena, Minnesota to parents Henry and Pearl (Bounds) Westberg.  As an infant he moved with his family to International Falls, Minnesota where he attended school and graduated in 1957.

In 1961 he enlisted into the United States Army and was discharged in 1964.

Jerry married Linda Kay Hall April 25, 1964 in Colton.  They lived in Manhattan, Kansas until his discharge from the army.  They moved to Colton where they lived until his death.  Over the years Jerry worked for Howie’s, Kayser Implement and Central States Rosenbauer before retiring in 2014.

Jerry enjoyed camping, riding his Harley and traveling around the country with Linda.  He enjoyed watching Tri Valley sports and running the chain at the football games which he did for 33 years.  Jerry’s great joy was spending time with family and teasing everyone he met.

He was a member of Colton American Legion and past member of the Colton Fire Department.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Linda, Colton; son, Todd (Nichole) Westberg, White, South Dakota; daughter, Eydie Thompson, Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Justin Thompson, Kelli Westberg, Michael Westberg, great grandchildren, Braelyn Westberg, Kylie Westberg, Allana Westberg, Kayden Westberg, and four sisters, Judy Leiner, Perrysville, Ohio; Gwen (Clayton) Dale, Benson, Minnesota, Bonnie Allison, Wooster, Ohio and Laura Willson, Golden Valley, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step dad, Raymond Palmer, brother, Robert Westberg and grandson, Tyler Thompson.
