Dee Ann Kulhavy, age 80, of Baltic, SD died Thursday, August 17, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society Village in Sioux Falls, SD. Dee was born in Sidney, Nebraska on March 18, 1943, to Emerson Donald and Lois Lillian (Shearn) Braithwaite. She then lived in Nebraska and South Dakota at various locations until she was 10 years old when her family settled in Wagner, South Dakota. She graduated from Wagner High School in 1961 and then attended the Rapid City Business School. On December 22, 1961, she married Karel Kulhavy in Pierre. They lived in Belvidere from 1961 to 1965 and it was there that their son Kevin was born in 1965. They then moved to Rapid City and then to Corsica in 1969. While in Corsica she worked as a teacher’s aide and at the Good Samaritan Home until 1974 when the family moved again to Pierre. In 1980, they moved to Aberdeen and Dee worked at Bath as a teacher’s aid until 1985 when they settled in Baltic. While in Baltic, Dee worked for the Dell Rapids and Baltic School Districts. She retired in 2005.

Dee was a loyal wife and a loving mother to her son. One of Dee’s greatest joys was when her granddaughter Olivia was born. You would often find Dee and Olivia at the pond fishing, playing at the park, or just having fun in the driveway. The two enjoyed many trips to the local thrift store, searching for clothes for Olivia’s dolls. Dee’s pride was watching Olivia grow up and start her own family. She was blessed with two great grandchildren, Hattie and Otto. Dee’s last year was spent at Good Samaritan where she made friends with residents and staff. She enjoyed visits from her family and her evening meals with Karel.

Grateful for having shared her life, her husband, Karel Kulhavy, Sioux Falls; son, Kevin (Dawn) Kulhavy, Sioux Falls; granddaughter, Olivia (Mat) Lind, Sioux Falls; great-grandchildren: Hattie and Otto Lind; and a sister, Linda (Larry) Johnson, Sioux Falls, and two nephews, Aaron Skog and Mark Skog. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and a brother, Tom Skog.
