Dawn LaRae Meyer, age 71, of Howard, formerly of Baltic, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. A celebration of life gathering will be held from 2-5:00 PM Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Baltic.

Dawn was born on November 29, 1953, in Dell Rapids, to Manville “Pete” and Norma Pederson. She grew up in Chester and graduated from Chester High School in 1972. On August 18, 1973, she married Alvin “Bud” Meyer in Colton. She raised her two children, Michael and Sheila, while also running an in-home daycare. Later she became a beloved lunch aide at Baltic schools. Once her children graduated, she worked at the CitiBank daycare, Achieve, Dow Rummel, and finally Friendly’s Gas Station until she retired.

Dawn had a wonderful sense of humor, an infectious smile, and was a devoted wife to Bud. They both loved game shows (especially Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune) and would enthusiastically compete with one another. She especially enjoyed putting together photo albums and scrapbooks.

Dawn was a fantastic cook and baker. She was always in the kitchen making food, especially at Christmas time. You never left her house hungry or without an arm full of food. She created every birthday cake for her kids growing up. These cakes were very elaborate and are talked about to this day. Dawn will forever be known for her little loaves of banana bread that she found joy in sharing with everyone. She enjoyed camping, hiking, and playing Old Maid with the kids. She loved traveling with Bud after their retirement and would often seek out the road less traveled on their journeys.

Survivors include her husband, Alvin “Bud” Meyer, Howard; children: Sheila (Travis) McKinstry, Rapid City, and Michael (Stacy) MacBlane-Meyer, Minneapolis; grandchildren: Landon Schumacher, Kyler Gibson, Andrew McKinstry, Austin McKinstry, Violet, Lydia, and Henry MacBlane-Meyer; mother, Norma Pederson, Chester; siblings: Randy (Wendy) Pederson, Sioux Falls, Kim (Russ) Pierce, Sioux City, Dallas Pederson, Chester; sister-in-law, Donna Pederson, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Manville “Pete” Pederson; brother, Kevin Pederson; Dallas’s significant other, Laurie Bitner; and a nephew, Cody Pederson.
