Darwin Dale Sievert, age 73, of Garretson, passed away with family by his side on Friday, July 27, 2018, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.

Darwin was born on November 30, 1944 in Sioux Falls to Elmer and Arlene (Stuckenbroker) Sievert. He attended grade school in Hardwick, Minnesota and graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls in 1962. After graduation he served in the National Guard. He made many friends working for Sunshine Foods and Sara Lee (formerly Metz) bakery. During “retirement” he worked at Sioux Falls Ford and helped Gary Engebretson farm.

On October 12, 1985, Darwin married Judy Willems in Sioux Falls. Together they had two daughters, Lindsay and Darcy. They spent 18 years on an acreage where he hobby farmed; including raising sheep, chicken, and donkeys and growing alfalfa.   Darwin could tell the year of a car by looking at it and enjoyed driving around in his classic cars. Darwin restored a Cockshutt 30 and loved to give his children and grandchildren rides.  He used the tractor to compete in many tractor pulls and give 4th of July hay rides to family and friends.  Darwin was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and could tell you why his team was better than yours.  In recent years, he treasured his time at Stoney Point Campground on Lake Benton meeting and visiting with people.

Survivors include his wife, Judy of Garretson; children: Chad (Amy) Sievert, Colorado Springs, CO, Kari Sievert, Colorado Springs, CO, Lindsay (Brett) Suiter, Greybull, WY and Darcy (Ryan) Mennenga, Harrisburg, SD; grandchildren: Cole, Taylor, and Cade Sievert, Hannah, Olivia, Elijah, and Lanee Suiter, and Adalyn and Nora Mennenga; sister, Marlene (Mick) McKee; brothers: Arlyn (Linda) Sievert, Grand Rapids, MI, and Darrell (Shiela) Sievert, Lincoln, NE; brothers-in-law, Daniel Padgett, Niles, OH, and Kemp Ellingson, Rapid City; Mark “Sparky” Seeman (a special family friend) and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
