Dale Ivan Schut

Dale Ivan Schut, age 70, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Chester, died on Monday, August 10, 2026, in Virginia, following a motorcycle accident. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at First Lutheran Church in Colton. Interment will follow at St. Jacob’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Colton. Visitation will be from 4:30-7:00 PM Tuesday, at Taopi Hall in Colton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Jacob’s Lutheran Memorial Fund.

Dale Ivan Schut was born July 10, 1956, to Merle and Marlene (Brown) Schut. He grew up on a farm in the Chester, SD area and graduated from Chester Area High School in 1974. Dale farmed alongside his dad for many years and continued farming until his retirement in December 2024.

Dale and Pam were married April 30, 1976, at St. Jacobs Lutheran Church, rural Colton and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. Together, they raised three sons. Dale was incredibly proud of his family, especially his six grandchildren. He loved attending their sporting events, school activities and sharing their accomplishments.

Dale began working at Gehl in Madison on his 18th birthday and spent 23 years there. He later owned and operated Schut Farms Transportation, traveling throughout the United States and Canda. After moving to Sioux Falls in 2011, he worked at Schuneman Equipment in Garretson, SD before joining BigIron Auctions.

Dale became a familiar face in the agricultural community, combining his knowledge of farming and equipment with his genuine desire to help people. He took great pride in caring for his customers and supporting communities through sponsorships, fundraisers, fairs and farm shows. His signature yellow and black BigIron shirts made him easy to spot wherever he went.

One of Dale’s proudest accomplishments was serving on the original Board of Directors that helped build the Dakota Ethanol Plant in Wentworth, South Dakota, supporting an effort he believed was important to farmers.

Dale’s passion for motorcycles was shared with his youngest son, Brad. They enjoyed many miles and road trips together on their FJR motorcycles. Dale also loved his Corvette, purchasing his long-awaited 2004 Corvette in April.

Dale was a member of St. Jacobs Lutheran Church in rural Colton, where he served in various leadership roles. His faith and church family were important parts of his life.

Dale is survived by his wife Pam; sons Timothy (Jennifer) of Wentworth, Patrick (Sara) of Chester, and Bradley of Brandon; grandchildren Avery, Brayden, Makayla, Katelyn, Alyssa, and Ansley Schut; mother-in-law Leona Fods; brother Kevin (Cindy) Schut of Madison; and sister Tamara (Steven Hendrickson) Schut of Fairview, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Marlene Schut, and his father-in-law, James Fods.

Dale lived life with a strong work ethic, a generous heart, a love for his family, and a passion for the open road. He made a lasting impact on countless people and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many communities he served.
