Carol J. Leum

Carol J. Leum, age 77, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022, at Riverview Healthcare in Flandreau. Funeral service will begin at 10:30 AM Friday, November 18, 2022, at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Dell Rapids. Memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids or the Humane Society in Sioux Falls.

Carol Jean Leum was born on January 15, 1945, in Sioux Falls, to William and Martha (Van Hunnick) Burgers. She grew up in Harrisburg and settled in Dell Rapids with her parents in 1955. After her education, Carol worked as a babysitter and at the hotel in Dell Rapids. On July 2, 1966, she married John Leum at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. Carol worked as a dietary aid at the Odd Fellow Nursing Home for 30 years. She retired in 1996.

Carol was a very active member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. She was a quilter and helped serve many weddings and funerals with the Esther Circle. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge No 21 in Dell Rapids. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time with Randy and Lisa and their fur babies.

Carol is survived by her son, Randy (Lisa) Leum, Omaha; brother, Leonard Burgers, Canton, sister, LaVina “Levi” Anderson, Sioux Falls, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 2007, and siblings, Vernon Burgers, and Sally Klinghagen. The family would like to give special thanks to Peggy Hancock for everything she did for Carol.
