Carol J. Grinde

Carol J. Grinde, age, 84 of Colton, SD passed away at her home near Colton on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Funeral service will be 10:30 am Friday, July 17, 2026, at the First Lutheran Church in Colton with Rev. Herb Wounded Head III officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Ansgar Cemetery, rural Colton.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Thursday, July 16th at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids, SD.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be designated to the Colton Friends of Baseball for their new field in Colton. Carol enjoyed many ball games over the years!

Carol JoAnn Grinde was born March 30, 1942, in Dell Rapids, SD to Chris and Ruth (Linge) Hoiness. She died July 12, 2026.

Carol grew up on a farm in the Colton, SD area attending a country school and later graduating from Colton High School. She then went to Nettleton College and worked at East River Electric. Carol married Paul Grinde on October 3, 1964. Once the kids were born, she helped Paul with the farming operation.

Carol was a member of First Lutheran Church in Colton, SD, where she taught Sunday School and was active serving the congregation in many ways. Carol shared 61 years of marriage with Paul and enjoyed watching the kids and grandkids in all of their activities, traveling with family, and farming. She loved her family and enjoyed watching them grow up. Outside of family, Carol enjoyed shopping for purses and jewelry, crafting, reading, search-a-words and playing games.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Paul; children Mike (Shelly) of Colton, SD and Joan (Lauren) of Bainbridge Island, WA; grandchildren Carter (Erica) Grinde, Lauren Grinde, Violet Scout, Willa Scout, Wylie Scout, and Roo Scout; sister-in-law Mary Hoiness and sister-in-law Donna Swier; nieces, nephews, and cousins. Carol will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Curtis of Colton, her sister and brother-in-law Bernice and Leland Nelson of Sioux Falls, and her brother-in-law Roger Swier of Colton.
