Bonnie Lou Johnson

November 20, 1941 — July 30, 2022

Bonnie L. Johnson, age 80, of Baltic, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Baltic Lutheran Church, Baltic, SD. Interment will follow at the East Nidaros Lutheran Cemetery, rural Baltic. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Tuesday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.

Bonnie was born on November 20, 1941, in Brookings, South Dakota to Lawrence and Rosetta (Voss) Friedel. She grew up in Brookings and graduated from Brookings High School. After high school she married William Miller in 1958. They raised their three children and lived in Brookings for five years until moving to Sioux Falls and then to a place south of Midway. Bonnie moved into Baltic in 1973. On October 6, 1979, Bonnie married Orill Johnson. She worked as a waitress for many years and at GW Window. She then worked as a pharmacy technician at Tel-Drug in Sioux Falls. She retired in 2007.

Bonnie was a dedicated member of Baltic Lutheran Church. She was active in WELCA and loved baking things for various church activities. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her girlfriend group which was nicknamed “The Golden Girls”. But most of all, Bonnie loved her family. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the center of her world. She attended their activities, watched them when they were sick, and spoiled them during Christmas. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her children: Sherry Hanson, Baltic, Larry Miller, Sioux Falls, and Dawn Miller, Baltic; grandchildren: Heather Hanson, Baltic, Chris (Heather) Hanson, Baltic, Angela (Dustin) Aspaas, Baltic, Mandy (Bryce) Witzel, Baltic, Melissa (McClain) Barron, Flandreau, and Justin (Jessica) Heard, Arlington; great grandchildren: Abby, Caid, Levi, Bradyn, Kyla, Brody, Colton, Daynica, Tenley, Raelyn, Mackenzie, and Lain; sister: Nancy (Tim) Barton, Brookings; and daughter-in-law, Marcia Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Rosetta (Voss) Friedel; husband, Orill, and brother, Melvin.
