Beverly Ann Johnson, age 94, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Baltic, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Dow Rummel in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Halladay-Peterson Chapel at Dow Rummel in Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 2:30 PM Tuesday, at East Nidaros Lutheran Cemetery, rural Baltic. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a future charitable use.
Beverly was born on July 29, 1932, to Walter and Marie (Dethlefs) Sheffield at home in Beadle County, South Dakota. She attended country school and graduated from Wessington Springs High School. She attended Wessington Springs Junior College, and then taught school in rural Beadle County.
Beverly married Gerald Johnson in Wessington Springs on November 22, 1950. They lived in Baltic, South Dakota until 1958, when they moved to a farm in Beadle County. They moved back to Baltic in 1965 where they lived the rest of their 52 years of marriage. Gerald passed away on November 6, 2002.
Beverly worked part time at the Baltic Farmers Elevator and Baltic Beacon. She began working at the Sioux Falls Argus Leader in 1968, and worked in the Classified and Accounting departments until retiring in 1995. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, crocheting, reading, golf, watching basketball and other sports, and spending time with family.
Beverly moved into Dow Rummel Village, Sioux Falls in 2013, where she enjoyed meeting and talking with the residents and staff and participating in the activities.
Beverly was a member of Baltic Lutheran Church for many years, and was currently a member of Messiah New Hope Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.
Grateful for having shared her life are son Dennis (Elaine) Johnson, Sioux Falls; daughter Charlene Johnson, Sioux Falls; grandson Dustin (Jaya Aswani) Johnson, grandson Craig Johnson, great grandchildren Rani and Anil Johnson, and many other extended family members.
Beverly was preceded in death by her husband Gerald; an infant daughter; her parents; siblings Elaine King, Luverne Sheffield, Keith Sheffield, Lorraine Drake, Dean Sheffield and Linda Kowalski; and her brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Beverly’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Dow Rummel Village and AseraCare Hospice for the compassion and kindness shown throughout her care.
