Rudolph “Rudy” Benson, 101, Crooks died peacefully Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Sanford Foundation Hospice Cottage.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Benton Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Benton Lutheran Cemetery.
Rudy was born September 14, 1913 at Crooks to parents Hjalmer and Christina (Johnson) Benson. He grew up and attended country school near Crooks. After his education he worked at John Morrell and Company and also for area framers. He entered the United States Army in 1942 and served during World War II until his discharge in 1945.
He married Lois Miller, May 30, 1946 at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. After their marriage he farmed in the Crooks area until the age of 90.
Rudy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing cards, dancing, and farming.
Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter, Denise Benson, Sioux Falls; two sons, Dale (Pat) Benson and Derry (Jan) Benson and son in law, Andy Mann, all of Crooks; five grandchildren, Zach (Laura) Benson, Melissa (Tyler) Klein, Ashton Benson, Lexi (Corey Cooper) Mann, Spencer Mann; three great granddaughters, Blakeley Klein, Rylee Grave, and Charlie Benson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois on November 4, 2000, his daughter Dianne Benson Mann on November 19, 2014, four brothers, Carl, Harold, Leroy and Harry and two sisters, Alma Anderson and Stella Brendtro.
