Anna Doty, age 90, of Garretson, formerly of Wakonda, died on Monday, January 26, 2015, at the Palisade Healthcare Community in Garretson. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Thursday, January 29, 2015, at the United Church of Garretson in Garretson. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.

Anna was born on September 26, 1924, to Lucian and Christine (Madsen) Woodbury at Centerville, South Dakota. She grew up in the Centerville area and graduated from Centerville High School in 1942. She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company following graduation. On November 1, 1946, she married Wilfred Allen Doty and settled in Wakonda, South Dakota. She worked at the Wakonda Creamery until beginning her career as a dental assistant and officer manager for Dr. Willard Powell in Vermillion. Anna retired in 1986 and moved to Garretson in 1997 to be closer to her daughter.

Anna was a member of the United Church of Christ in Wakonda and later the United Church of Garretson. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was active in the South Dakota Dental Assistant’s Association. She enjoyed croqueting, playing cards, golfing, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Susan (Jeff) Sylliaasen, of Garretson; granddaughter, Kristin (Ryan) Tuttle, of Harrisburg; grandsons: Tim (Miranda) Sylliaasen, of Brandon, and Brad (Kellie) Sylliaasen, of Dilworth, MN; great-grandchildren: Nathan, Kadin, & Peyton Tuttle, of Harrisburg, Kelsi & Cole Sylliaasen, of Brandon, and Zachary, Tyler, Sarah, & Emilee Sylliaasen, of Dilworth; and a sister, Bertha Garvey, San Marcos, California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Will Doty; and a son, Richard “Rick” Doty.
