Myrtle Brekke, 88, of Sioux Falls formerly of Baltic died Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the Sanford USD Medical Center.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Saturday, January 10, 2015 at West Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Burial will be in the West Nidaros Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Friday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.
Myrtle Brekke was born to Fred and Ella Peterson, October 9, 1926, in their Sioux Falls home. She attended Lowell Elementary and Washington High School. She married Kenneth Brekke September 18, 1946 at West Nidaros. Myrtle made the big transition from city girl to farm life where they raised their 5 children in Baltic.
Just before their 60th wedding anniversary, with Kenneth’s passing, Myrtle moved back to Sioux Falls in 2006. As a shut in, she loved the Nytroe reunions, the TV preaching ministry of Harold Salem out of Aberdeen, And also passed many hours by knitting and donating stocking caps up until the day of her stroke.
Myrtle is survived by 5 children, John Brekke (Kris) of Menomonie, WI; Nancy Brekke of Sioux Falls; Lance Brekke (Nancy) of Baltic; Irene Warner (Alan) of Flandreau; and Ilene Anderson (Noel) of Fargo, ND; six grandchildren; Joshua Brekke (Marlene), Lucas Brekke, Miriam Schultz (Nicholas), Daniel Warner, Tirzah and Lillian Anderson; 4 great grandchildren, Evangelyn and Ester Schultz, and Tyler and Mikayla Brekke.
Memorial may be directed to the Harold Salem Ministry, Faith Temple Food Give Away or the Salvation Army.
