John Ernst, 55, died June 10, 2014 at Atkin, MN.

He was born July 18, 1958 in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up in South Dakota and Minnesota. John graduated from Fergus Falls High School in Minnesota. He graduated from the University of North Dakota-Bottineau with degrees in forestry and wildlife conservation. He also attended the University of Montana-Missoula. He graduated from Staples Technical Institute, where he obtained his electrical technician degree.

John worked for various companies, most notably Bill Davis Engineering and Weyerhaeuser. As part of his job he traveled all over the United States, Europe and the Middle East.

John was married to Ellen Johnson on September 10, 1988. He lived most of his adult life in the north woods of Minnesota. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, raising golden retrievers, and the many diverse kinds of music. he enjoyed.

John is survived by his mother, Doris (Moe) Ernst, Sioux Falls; siblings, Sarah (Ron) Schock, Tea, SD; William, Minneapolis; Sally Watton, Baytown, TX; and Joseph, Sioux Falls; two nephews, Gabe and Aaron, one grand- niece, Riley, and one grand-nephew, Jake; aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Burrell R. Ernst and a brother in law, Rick Watton.

Graveside services will be held in Pioneer Cemetery, rural Baltic at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 12, 2014 with fellowship following at the West Nidaros Church in the Heritage room.
