Cora Mae Ohme, age 96, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Colton, died on Friday, April 25, 2014, at her home. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Friday, May 2, 2014, at the Halladay-Peterson Chapel at Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 2:30 PM Friday, at the Minnehaha Lutheran Cemetery, rural Colton. Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church in Colton, Colton Fire Department, or the Children's Home Society.
Cora Mae (Lura) Ohme was born October 8, 1917 in rural Montrose, South Dakota, to parents Emil and Margie (Jorgenson) Lura. She grew up in Iroquois, Clark, and Hartford. She attended country school and graduated from Hartford High School. She enjoyed working as a nurse’s aide in the iron-lung section of the polio ward before her marriage to Sigurd Ohme, August 27, 1944 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clark, South Dakota. The couple farmed in the Colton area until their retirement, June 1982, when they moved to Sioux Falls. In 2003, they moved to Dow Rummel Village.
Cora Mae was a member of First Lutheran Church, Colton, and was active in many church activities: Altar Guild, Circle, Ladies Aid, as well as serving as a Sunday School Teacher and Vacation Bible School Teacher for 10 years. She loved her family and was dedicated to her husband, her daughter, and her Christian faith.
Cora Mae is survived by her daughter, Carole, Sioux Falls; three nephews, Robert (Shirley) Kelsven, Morris (Patricia) Kelsven, Roger Nordhus, three nieces, Margie Lura (Rex) Rolfing, Marcia Lura (Vincent) Battista, Janel Nordhus (Donald) Schultz, a sister in law, Irene Lura, a brother in law, Robert Nordhus and many great nieces and nephews.
Cora Mae was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Margie (Jorgenson) Lura; her husband, Sigurd Ohme; two sisters: Lois (Lura) Nordhus and Marlys (Lura) Pearson; and a brother, Jasper Lura.
