Richard “Rick” Lynn Doty, age 64, of Madison, formerly of Wakonda, died on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Memorial services will begin at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson. A time to greet the family will begin at 10:30 AM at the church. Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson, is handling the arrangements.

Richard was born on March 19, 1950, at Yankton, South Dakota, to Wilfred A. and Ann (Woodbury) Doty. Rick lived at home in Wakonda until the age of six. Since that time he has resided at Redfield, Custer, and was presently living at the ECCO Facility in Madison. Although he could never express himself verbally, his smiles showed that he enjoyed going for rides, going out for ice cream, and holding your hand. Throughout the last few days in the hospital, he would grab Kristin and Sue’s hands and place them on his cheek and smile.

Grateful for having shared his life are his mother, Ann Doty, of Garretson; Susan (Jeff) Sylliaasen, of Garretson; niece, Kristin (Ryan) Tuttle, of Harrisburg; nephews: Tim (Miranda) Sylliaasen, of Brandon, and Brad (Kellie) Sylliaasen, of Dilworth, MN; great nieces & nephews: Nathan, Kadin, & Peyton Tuttle, of Harrisburg, Kelsi & Cole Sylliaasen, of Brandon, and Zachary, Tyler, Sarah, & Emilee Sylliaasen, of Dilworth. He was preceded in death by his father, Will Doty.
