Roger D. Wold, 87, of Baltic died Monday, January 13, 2014 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Friday, January 17, 2014 at the East Nidaros Lutheran Church, Baltic. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic. Burial will be in the East Nidaros Lutheran Cemetery, Baltic.
Roger was born July 7, 1926 to parents C. Oscar and Belva (Tidemann) Wold in Sioux Falls. He lived with his parents in Crooks until 1937, when they moved to a home near Midway. He graduated from Baltic High School in 1944. After his graduation he entered the United States Army and served in France during World War II. He returned to the Baltic area and worked with his father at Midway Service. His father retired and Roger continued to operated Midway Service until 1978 and the Bulk Gas business until 1988. He continued to work at Midway for Jimmie and Tanya Vollan.
Roger married Rhoda Paulsness on March 20, 1947 at East Nidaros Lutheran Church. They lived near Midway until his death. He was baptized at West Nidaros Lutheran Church and confirmed at East Nidaros Lutheran Church, where he was a long time member. Roger was also a member of the Baltic American Legion and the Sioux Falls VFW.
Roger loved to sing and was a member of the Baltic Orpheus Choir and then the Norse Glee Club until a couple of years ago.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 66 years, Rhoda, Baltic, daughter, Mary Lee Lohnes, Sioux Falls, grandsons, Shawn (Kristin) Lohnes, Sioux Falls; Ian Wold, New York City; Leif Wold, California; two great grandsons, Brandon and Jaxon Lohnes, Sioux Falls; his sister, Dorothy Sittig, Baltic and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey and his parents.
