Dennis Anderson, age 55, of Garretson, died on Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at Prince of Peace in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM Monday, December 30, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson. Burial will be in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery.

Visitation with the family present will be from 3:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday, December 29th at Minnehaha Funeral Home in Garretson.

Dennis Udell Anderson was born May 6, 1958 to Byron and Marian (Vandersnick) Anderson at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was baptized and confirmed at St Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Garretson. Dennis was raised on the family farm in rural Garretson and received his education in the Garretson school district. During his high school years he was active in several extracurricular activities and enjoyed helping his parents around the family farm. He graduated in 1976 from high school and then attended SDSU in Brookings where he graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. During his college years he was a member of Farmhouse Fraternity and several intramural teams. He also competed in the Little I Salesmanship Contest where he won first place, leading him to an interest in selling farm equipment. Following college Dennis worked on the family farm and worked part-time at the Garretson Municipal Bar.

On October 8, 1983 Dennis married Gail Houtkooper in Canby, MN and they made their home in rural Garretson. He enjoyed traveling and camping and especially enjoyed all the family vacations to Disney World. Dennis also loved to try the new restaurants that opened in the area.

In February of 1986 Dennis joined the sales team at DeSchepper Implement Company where he found his true passion. He loved visiting with the customers and enjoyed learning everything about the new equipment that was coming out. It was at that same time that he decided to start a custom round baling business, which he truly loved. He continued to sell equipment throughout the changes to Beckman Implement and then Schuneman Equipment Company. Due to his sales of equipment he earned many trips to different places around the world. He especially enjoyed going on a Baltic Sea Cruise where he got to make stops in Helsinki, Finland; St. Petersburg, Russia; and Stockholm, Sweden. Other places he traveled to were, Dublin, Ireland and Monaco.

Dennis truly loved to meet people and made several lifelong friends on his trips overseas. He was also the first person to greet any new neighbors moving into the area and any new customers stopping by the implement company. His greatest joys in his life were his three sons, Zachary Udell, Jacob Ryan, and Alex James. He loved attending all of their school events and especially the sporting events. The family took several family vacations and their times together will be greatly missed.

Dennis passed away on December 24, 2013 at the age of 55 years, 7 months, and 18 days.

Gratefully for having shared his life are Gail, his sons, Zachary, Starbuck, MN, Jacob, Rapid City, SD, and Alex, Garretson, SD; several aunts, uncles and many cousins. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Marian Anderson; an infant sister, Linda; his grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
