Leona R. Donovan, 91, of Baltic died Friday, October 18, 2013 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Garretson. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Monday with a Wake Service at 7:00 PM at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.

Leona R. Hartmann was born August 27, 1922 at Hartford to parents Henry and Clara (Bruemmer) Hartmann. She grew up on a farm near Rowena and the family lived in Larchwood, Granite, Beaver Creek, Garretson and Baltic. She attended school in Valley Spring-Brandon and graduated in 1940.

Leona worked for Michael and Liz Donovan as a house maid. On May 11, 1943 she was united in marriage to Thomas Donovan at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Garretson. Leona worked alongside Thomas on his parent’s farm. In 1975 they sold the farm and moved the family to Coachman’s Manor near Baltic. Leona was owner of the Baltic Pool Hall from 1975 to 1979. In 1999 she moved into the City of Baltic.

Leona enjoyed sewing, making quilts, embroidery, reading, doing puzzles and playing cards with family and friends.

Leona will be loving remembered by four sons and four daughters, Daniel (Dianne) Donovan, Sioux Falls; Diane (Tom) Larson, Sioux Falls; Michael Donovan, Baltic; Rose Crowell, Baltic; Georgia Donovan, Sioux Falls; Donald Donovan, Bangor, Maine; Betty Donovan, Sioux Falls; David Donovan, Baltic; elven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren with one on the way; one great great grandchild; her brother, Randolph Hartmann, Rapid City; two sisters, Lucille (Quentin) Sorenson, Canton and Evelyn Carlson, Rapid City, and many nieces, nephews, cousin, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas in 1985, sons, Ronald in 1976 and Thomas LeRoy in 2005, a granddaughter, Kristina Crowell, her parents, a brother, Lawrence and two sister, Ruby Hartmann and Irene Jans.
