Zita Cap, 89 of Emery, died Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion.

Mass of Christian Burial will began 10:30 A.M. Friday, April 12, 2013 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Farmer. NOTE CHANCE OF CHURCH DUE TO POWER OUTAGE. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation with the family present will be from 6-8:00 PM Thursday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.

Zita Elizabeth Collins was born October 9, 1923 to Hiram and Elizabeth (Kerr) Collins at their home near O’Neil, Nebraska. She grew up and received her education in the Meckling - Vermillion area.

On October 11, 1941, she married Lawrence L. Cap in Ponca, Nebraska and renewed her vows on February 6, 1942 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton. Zita worked at Red Owl, often thumbing a ride to Yankton, after walking two and a half miles to the highway from the farm. From 1944 to 1946, she and Lawrence raised turkeys for Hadley Fredrickson in Minnesota. In 1947 they moved to Bones Hereford Ranch in Parker, and in 1956 they moved to Rooney Feedlot north of Sioux Falls. Zita was a 4-H Leader in Minnehaha County for over ten years. She worked as the manager of the Four Presidents Motel in Keystone from 1979 until her retirement in 1986. They moved to Emery in 2000.

Zita is survived by her husband of 71 years, Lawrence of Emery; her five children, Larry (Margaret) Cap of Oxfordshire, England; Juanita Guischer of Baltic; Rhoda Highfill of Baltic; Paulette (darrel) Van Kekerix, Roy Washington; and Doug (Penny) Cap of Pearce, Arizona; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a brother, Harold and two sister, Fidelis and Marilyn.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Art and Vic and two sisters, Evelyn and Marcella.
