Steven D. “Chez” James, 58, of Renner and a native of Mankato died Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at his home under hospice care.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 A.M. Monday, August 1, 2011 at Renner Lutheran Church, Renner, SD. Visitation with the family present will be from 4-7:00 PM Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Renner Lutheran Church. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Sioux Falls.

Steven was born January 19, 1953 in Mankato, MN to parents Forrest and Genevieve (Wilke) James. He grew up in the Mankato area and graduated from Mankato High School. He married Christine Snyder October 23, 1976 in North Mankato. He entered the United States Marine Corps and served from 1976 to 1978. They lived in the Mankato area until moving to Renner in 1989. He owned and operated Etchings by Chez.
He was a member of the Renner Lutheran Church, Renner American Legion, Marine Corps League, and played pool in the Great Amusement and Music Service League.

He enjoyed his family and friends and spending time at his cabin at Waubay Lake. Camp Friendship was a big part of his heart.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Christine, Renner; his children, Justin James, Renner; Jennifer (Timothy) Lendt, Nicollet, MN; Joline (Robert) Nordlee, Rapid City, SD; Jeffrey James, Renner; four grandsons, Chase Scott, Landon Nordlee, Trevor James and Philip Lendt and was looking forward to the addition of two more grandchildren this winter;his step mother, Janice James, Ivanhoe, MN; two brothers, Jeffrey “Unc” James, Renner; Ed (April) James, North Richland Hills, TX; three sisters, Mardonna (Dennis) Health, Mankato; and Katie Wilaby, Circle Pine, MN; and Mary (Ronnie) Petrusek, Rosenberg, TX and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Joshua, brother, Richard and nephew, Chad Wilaby.
