VIEW SERVICE FOLDER

Agnes Lamp, 88, of Sherman, died Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 AM Thursday, January 24, 2013, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Garretson. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 PM Wednesday, with a Rosary at 6:30 PM, and a Wake Service at 7:00 PM at Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Agnes was born on June 11, 1924, to Emil and Gertrude Brakke on their family farm between Flandreau and Elkton. She grew up there and received her education at the Lathrop Country School. During World War II, she moved to California and worked in manufacturing plants. On October 1, 1946, she married Merle Lamp at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Elkton. The couple lived and farmed near Elkton for five years until moving to a different farm near Sherman. In 1956, they moved to their current farm near Sherman.

Agnes was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Garretson, where she was active in the Altar Society. She greatly enjoyed being on the farm where she would take care of her flowers, cook, and tend to the animals. Agnes was a caring and giving person. She worked for 25 years in housekeeping at Palisade Manor in Garretson, where she would also fix hair for the residents and others around town.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Merle, Sherman; daughter: Linda (Joe) Huntimer, Beulah, ND; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Ann Brakke, and Helen Brakke; and special family friend, Sarah Johnson, Sioux Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael in 1996; two sisters; two brothers; and a brother-in-law.
