Doug then attended the University of Minnesota's Program of Mortuary Science in Minneapolis. While there he served as treasurer of the Mortuary Science Student Association and was employed with Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapels in Robbinsdale, Plymouth, and St. Louis Park, Minnesota.
Doug returned to South Dakota and became employed with Minnehaha Funeral Home on January 1, 2005, and became a licensed funeral director in South Dakota and Minnesota. He moved to Garretson in May 2005. Doug is also a Licensed Insurance Producer in South Dakota and Minnesota. He is currently representing United Heritage Life Insurance, a funeral insurance provider. In September of 2008, Doug became a licensed funeral director in the State of Iowa. He currently serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of the South Dakota Funeral Director's Association. In 2010, Doug received the Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) designation from the Academy Of Professional Funeral Service Practice. To attain the CFSP desigantion, Doug completed 180 hours of academic, professional, and public education activities.
Doug is a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson, and the Garretson Commercial Club. He is also a certified firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) with the Garretson Volunteer Fire Department and the Garretson Community Ambulance.
